This week, we have Gaynor Henaghan as Artist of the Week. Gaynor paints both contemporary and more traditional pieces, depending on the mood and what is influencing her at the time! Her main inspiration is colour, light and structure, although ideas often come from the most unexpected places - from facial expressions to the spoken word.
Gaynor works a great deal with texture as it gives a whole new dimension to the artwork itself - capturing the visual aspect but also making you want to touch it.
The painting featured here, is an original pastel painting of a scene from the beautiful Greek town of Parga.

Artist of The Week - John Boyle

The artist of the week, this week, is John Boyle. John is predominantly a portrait artist.....and a talented one at that. He has become a respected and established artist in his local area, gaining press coverage by hosting a one man portrait exhibition and taking part in group/collective art shows. He paints in a variety of styles using mainly Acrylic and Oil paints. The majority of his commisions these days come mainly for portraiture work, where he paints the subjects from photographs.
John has always been interested in Art from a young age, and continued his interest as a hobby throughout his adult life. Now, finding more time, he has been able to
commit himself more to his art and has sold paintings both locally and abroad. John will now be taking part in regular exhibitions where his work can be viewed and bought.

Artist of The Week - Cherie Sullivan

The artist of the week this week is Cherie Sullivan. Taking a virtual walk through Cherie's Affordable British Art gallery is a feast for the eyes......and definitely gets the old gastric juices going. Just look at these cherries.....they look so moist and juicy they're making me hungry.

Cherie Sullivan is a contemporary Scottish artist.
Her bold, distinctive, vibrant works are influenced by colour and nature. Preferring to work from photographs, rather than from life, Cherie can often be found photographing flowers and fruit. Some of these photos then, in turn, inspire her paintings. Working with acrylics, oils or in mixed media on box canvas, Cherie’s paintings are a bright and vivid representation of the natural world around us.
Cherie exhibits across Scotland, and has many works in private collections around the world. NHS Fife recently purchased 4 of Cherie’s paintings to be displayed in the Queen Margaret Hospital, Dunfermline.

Cherie says:
“I enjoy taking macro shots of flower centres…these interesting photographs are often semi abstract by nature. I like to concentrate on their stamens, cropping the photos to get exactly the image I want. Once cropped, these images then form the basis for my paintings.
For my fruity paintings I use the same process, but tend to concentrate on the negative spaces between the fruits.”

Fascinating.....

stuff......well, I think it is....see what you think:
One of our resident artists, Diane Jennings, runs regular art classes and she sent me some pictures of a rather unusual class she had recently. This particular class contained a Grandmother and Grand-daughter and it was just fascinating to see the results. Needless to say, both enjoyed themselves immensly and are justifiably proud of their respective results.....so here they are, have a look for yourself and see if you are as surprised as I was:

Diane says "I can teach almost anyone to paint, all they need to be able to do is hold a paintbrush, listen and follow my direction"

...very impressive results.....I wonder what the 7yr old girl's school teacher said??
