Artist of The Week - Steven Montgomery

The Artist of the Week this week is Steven Montgomery. Steven is an abstract artist who enjoys working on large scale canvases. The painting shown is one of his "smaller" works - but at 76cmx50cm it is nonetheless a substantial painting....made moreso by the sculptural use of texture on the canvas. Steven's work often makes use of texture....usually of multiple layers of paint, and it wouldn't be unusual to find hundreds of pounds worth of paint extravagently used on one canvas. I particularly love this painting....it's called "Too Busy To Notice"....and is a depiction of a beautiful sunset over the ocean. Something which most people don't seem to have the time to take to notice of nowadays. It is done in Steven's scraped & scultured style, which gives it a 3D effect, standing proud of the canvas. This approach gives it a tactile quality which viewers just have to touch - thereby forcing the viewer to stop and interact with that which they usually miss.
